REVIT VERSIONMASTER - UX DESIGN
As an architect, the most common of software is Autodesk Revit. It’s building information modeling software for architects, landscape architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, designers and contractors. The software allows users to design a building and structure and its components in 3D, annotate the model with 2D drafting elements, and access building information from the building model's database.
Observation
There’s a survey shows that architects spend more than half or their working hours in Revit, so their working efficiency is directly related to whether Revit is user friendly and saves time.
Sometimes architects and engineers need to utilize past project Revit model for reference or study, like detail drawings and certain sheets. However, it’s not just double click open the model, simply copy and paste. Since most time models’ versions are different and Revit doesn’t supports copy and paste any items among varying versions.
As for now, there are two ways to make it happened. The first one is make a new copy of the old version Revit model and do the upgrade. It takes hours to upgrade the whole model, with supposed multiply crush and stops. But only certain small part of drawing is actually needed. The second one is export the needed part as Autodesk CAD from the former Revit model and import to the new model. But it requires lots time to take care of compatibility between Revit and CAD, like lines and words.

About to solve the problem of transferring drawings from different Revit versions, the idea is to create a Revit plugin – Version Master. It supports user to choose certain needed drawings to upgrade or downgrade to the expected version. Instead of spending long time for the whole model, the Version Master avoids the potential damage to the original Revit model and improves the working efficiency.
Besides, the Version Master is also supports the whole model version change and works at background, meanwhile users can continue their Revit working and don’t need to wait until the whole process complete as before.
